by Michael on September 13, 2009

I am excited because the manufacturing prototypes for Homesteaders and Terra Prime have arrived.  I want to share with you some of my excitement, so I made the video below to show you a couple of turns of game play for both games.  Enjoy!

UPDATE: Due to popular demand, I have remade the video and split it into two parts.  Please enjoy!

I have posted a link to free games friday from my facebook,
but is the deal over for me to buy both games at the price listed above???
It truly is a great deal, and I would love to support fellow boardgame producers.
Also, the dragon would make a great surprise present for my niece ;)
  • sedj
Rik: I think you may have misunderstood - to get the dragon you are not intended to post to Tasty Minstrel's blog, but rather link to Free Games Friday from you OWN blog.
  • rikvanhorn
I still think Free Games Friday is a nifty idea though.
  • rikvanhorn
Well I guess no dragon for me. I have no idea what to do.

I can find no way to post on Tasty Minstrel's site. I bought both games, but cannot seem to post on their blog. There does not seem to be any blog.
  • And of course, I will probably have yet another reshoot after I gain some video editing skills.
  • This video looks cool but i think that it can be made quite clear because the colour in a video is not identifying and many other mistakes. Terra prime has some interesting concepts that has to be show in this video.

entered and waiting-are the orders fulfilled locally? if so, any chance for signed copies of at least Terra Prime, if not Homesteaders (Alex is in WA, IIRC) for the pre-orders?
  • sedj
Oh my... watching the Terra Prime video I see that I made another mistake (in addition to the one I mentioned)! Bonus points if you can identify it! You should be able to do so with only the information in the video...
  • kevintlee
good call on the reshoot. take a look at a couple of reviews by boardgameswithscott for flow and structure. start by introducing the games theme and goal then components and setup and then flow of play.

it also gets a little long shooting both games together. I'd consider splitting them up and making a bigger deal of the promotion with a little teaser in the intro and the details after each of the game reviews
  • sedj
Mike and I will be reshooting the video tonight or tomorrow. If you have any specific requests for the re-shoot, post 'em up!
  • Denise
You might want to consider opening with the type of game/goals/suggested number of players, etc. before going into the turn examples. Providing a frame of reference first would have helped me follow along a bit better...
  • BlueSun19
Yes, please reshoot. It's obvious that you're excited about the games and wanted to post something right away, which is great. But better to take your time to ensure video quality. At the least, waiting until the house was quiet will make it more professional. Also, holding the bits and cards that close to the camera just made my eyes hurt because the camera can't focus that close anyway. I'd suggest backing off the close-ups a few inches so the camera can focus properly, and posting pics to show close-ups of the cards for those interested.

That being said, I'm looking forward to trying the games. I'm very impressed with the quality of the bits in Homesteaders. Congrats on your first publishing efforts!
  • Cool video. You told at the beggining about the game box arrieved from China. I am a bit curious about where did you product your game.
  • bagherra
Pinochhio playing in the background is VERY distracting. I agree, you should reshoot this.

I think the video needs to be remade. It's a bit too amateurish--forgetting to take out the VP, identifying a color wrong, picking out the tile, etc. I know it's a one take video for a blog, but at the same time, this is your game, and you want to sell all your copies, so put your best video forward. It looks like there are some interesting concepts in Terra Prime. I like the way the planets are on the rim, and the multi-use pacmen counters, that's clever. Some of those upgrades sound very powerful, enough to make encounters with aliens trivial, it seems.
  • sedj
You forgot to give Purple his 6vp for killing 3 aliens! Also, yes - Red planets provide Shield modules. there's a reminder of what you can get at each type of colony (or if you prefer, what type of colony you need to go to to get each Module) on the player board.

Homesteaders' auction may look familiar, it's just like the auction in Vegas Showdown, and also similar to the auction in Amun-Re (though in Homesteaders you can re-bid on the same auction, unlike Amun-Re). Like most games, turns flow clockwise in Homesteaders - not counterclockwise like in Mike's demo ;) Oh, and at the end there Mike mentioned that rail lines give 1 gold income - it's actually 1 silver, as he said earlier. Gold is one of the resources you can make/buy, silver is the "money" of the game.
