Why you should track shortened URLs for clickthroughs
If you are trying to drive traffic to your website, blog, or map for the purpose of making money either today or in the future, you need to know what templates of headlines are getting more clickthroughs from Twitter. The best way to track this is directly with your favored URL shortener. I have found that the clickthrough rate shown to me by bit.ly is different from my Clicky Analytics and Google Analytics. Utilizing bit.ly gives me a direct test of the power of different headlines.
If you want to estimate how many of your friends are coming to your party, provide them with a bit.ly link to the invitation. Now you can track the clicks that go to the invitation, which is helpful if your friends are like mine. Often times, there is no RSVP.
